摘要(Abstract):As the remarkable advance of display technology, liquid crystal display (LCD) has prevailed over the market for the past ten years. The consumers are more and more critical for the performances and additional features of display devices, such as high contrast, fast switching speed, small form factor, bistability, and flexibility. In this presentation, the speaker would like to share his experiences on researching these display features, where he will introduce the material science and device physics of the organic semiconductor, liquid crystal, and colloidal system first, and then the achievements and future plan of using these theories for researching the flexible LED and sensor, bistable electrophoretic display (EPD), and optically-compensated-bend (OCB) LCD;

Biography
Dr. Yang received a B.S. in Material Science and Engineering from National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan in 2002. He obtained a M.S. in Material Science and Engineering from National Tsing Hua Univerisity in Taiwan in 2004. In 2008, he obtained his Ph.D. in Optoelectronics from National Chiao Tung Univerisity in Taiwan. During his Ph.D study, he was also certified a MBA program for international students from National Chiao Tung University. From 2007 to the summer of 2008, Dr. Yang joined the University of Oxford in UK and Tohoku University in Japan as doctoral researcher, respectively. Since 2009, he has been working at SiPix and in 2012, he was promoted as a R&D manager in SiPix, Taiwan. Dr. Yang’s research interests mainly focus on flat panel display and materials science, which include LCD, OLED, electrophoretic display, flexible electronics, near-field optical sensor, atomic force microscopy, and roll-to-roll manufacturing process. During his postgraduate research and industrial experience, he has contributed over 10 peer-reviewed journal papers and conference papers, and 8 U.S. patents in these areas. In 2011, he has successfully produced the fastest electrophoretic display panel in the world.
